2013-14 Team MVP Returns to Orlando

Orlando, FL – The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL’s Iowa Wild and Toronto Marlies, announced today that they have agreed to terms with F Jacob Cepis and D Carl Nielsen. Cepis was named the team MVP at the annual Orlando Solar Bears Awards Show in April. Cepis also collected the Three Stars of the Year Award presented by Keena Wealth.

Cepis (5-8, 185 lbs.) returns to Orlando after leading the team with 36 assists and finishing second on the team with 56 points in 48 games last season. He registered Jacob Cepissix game winning goals, including an overtime tally to lift the Solar Bears to a 4-3 victory over the Utah Grizzlies on January 5. The Parma, OH, native finished the season with 15 multiple point games, picked up three assists in a single game on five separate occasions, and scored a hat trick while assisting on F Mickey Lang’s overtime goal against the Florida Everblades on March 4.

Heading into his fourth professional season, Cepis has played in 171 regular season games in his ECHL career, posting 177 points on 65 goals and 112 assists. In 2012-13, Cepis finished fourth in the ECHL with 51 assists in 66 games split between the Idaho Steelheads and Trenton Titans. He has skated in 28 games in Europe, including 25 games for Karlskona (Sweden 2nd division) prior to joining the Solar Bears last season and three games for Tappara in the Finish Elite League in 2011-12.

Nielsen (6-4, 225 lbs.) completed his first full professional season last year, playing in seven games for the Syracuse Crunch (AHL) and earning nine points (4G, 5A) and 51 PIM in 44 games for the Florida Everblades. Prior to starting his professional career, the Lorain, OH, native completed four seasons (2009-13) with Michigan Tech (NCAA), picking up 155 PIM while posting 20 points on four goals and 16 assists. Nielsen was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team in 2011-12 and 2012-13.
