Meet the Brains behind Orion’s Spacecraft

Learn All About the Orion Spacecraft from Those Who Built It

Orlando Science Center hosts some key players who paved the way for Orion’s test launch and made its premiere journey a success. Guests can enjoy special presentations from Lockheed Martin’s Joe Mayer, Adam Ayala and Barry Bohnsack.


Joe Mayer, the director of government relations for Lockheed Martin in Florida. Joe has many years of experience working in the aerospace industry as well as the U.S. Senate in Washington, D.C. He has supported the Orion program and space exploration from Houston and Florida for the past seven years.

·         Adam Ayala, an engineer for Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company at the Kennedy Space Center. Adam works in the Neil Armstrong Operations & Checkout building where Lockheed Martin, its industry partners and NASA assembled the Orion spacecraft.

·         Barry Bohnsack, a finance and program planning expert supporting the Orion spacecraft program. Barry has long-standing experience in the area of STEM education outreach, volunteering his personal time on programs such as the FIRST Robotics Competition.

Level 2 > Digital Adventure Theater: A National Geographic Experience

WHY: Orion is NASA’s next generation of exploration spacecraft, which had its first test launch Friday, Dec. 5. While designed to transport astronauts to destinations in deep space by as early as 2021, the test launch was unmanned and achieved a two-orbit, four-hour flight to test many of the systems most critical to safety.
COST: Experience the Orion Spacecraft presentations with admission to Orlando Science Center which is $19 for adults and $13 for youth (ages 3 – 11). Tickets include access to all four floors of exhibits, giant screen and 3-D educational films, one Hollywood feature-length film, and live programming.
