Live from Orlando, It’s Science Night Live! Discover the Science of Craft Beer and Unwrap Your Perceptions of Mummies at Science Center’s Adults-Only Event

Orlando Science Center kicks off the summer with an eclectic evening of fun and discovery reserved just for grown-ups during Science Night Live on Saturday, June 6 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The evening boasts a live presentation by mummy expert Dr. Heather Gill-Frerking, craft beer sampling with local and national breweries, craft beer mini seminars, a Pink Floyd laser light show and more! The event is part of Orlando Science Center’s year-long 60th anniversary celebration.

Join Dr. Heather Gill-Frerking as she unravels the common impression that mummies are strictly the bandage-wrapped Egyptian variety in her presentation “Mummies: Challenging Perceptions.” Discover how mummies are found from all over the world, and most are preserved naturally due to environmental conditions. She will also share personal discoveries of mummies she’s worked with from Europe, Egypt and South America. Dr. Gill-Frerking is the director of science and education for the “Mummies of the World” exhibition set to premiere at Orlando Science Center on June 13.

In addition to food and adult beverages available for purchase, visitors will have the opportunity to sample multiple varieties of craft beer brewed right here in Florida and from as far as Seattle. For a small additional fee, visitors can enjoy 12 two-ounce pours of craft beers presented by Brown Distributing Company in partnership with Swamp Head Brewery, Left Hand Brewing Company, Uinta Brewing Company, Boulevard Brewing Co., La Chouffe, Duvel Moortgat Brewery, Brewery Ommegang, Merchant du Vin, Highland Brewing Company, Cigar City Brewing, B. Nektar Meadery and Ballast Point. In conjunction with Brown Distributing Company and Millenia Catering, select craft beers will also be available for purchase.

Explore the science behind these tasty beverages with mini seminars presented by brewing-industry professionals. With topics like “Tiny Bubbles: Nitro Beers Explained” presented by Left Hand Brewing Co., Highland Brewing’s “Just a Wee Bit Different: The History of Highland Brewing” and “Mummies & Meade” with Brown Distributing, these seminars are sure to satisfy everyone’s taste buds.

And don’t forget to experience a Science Center staple during the summer months, a laser light show in the Dr. Phillips CineDome featuring Pink Floyd’s “Best of Echoes.” Light and sound will merge for an unforgettable rock ‘n’ roll experience backed by 28,000 watts of stereo sound and mesmerizing laser effects. Enjoy such classics as “One of These Days,” “Comfortably Numb,” “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2),” and “Wish You Were Here” like never before.

Visitors can also examine the night sky in the Crosby Observatory through the use of the 10-inch refractor telescope — the largest of its kind in the state available to the public. View moons, planets and deep sky objects such as galaxies, nebulas and more. In addition, enjoy an unobstructed view of the downtown Orlando skyline from the sixth-floor terrace. This activity is weather-permitting.

In addition, partake in bar-style science trivia; delight in food and adult beverages available for purchase; explore hands-on exhibits and so much more!
